Neti pots

A neti pot or nasal pungent rinsing pot is a traditional tool used in Ayurveda for cleansing the nasal cavities and the nasal mucosa. This technique is called jala neti, which means “water cleansing.” The goal is to clear the nose of dust, mucus, and allergens, allowing breathing to become freer and calmer.

When using a neti pot, a lukewarm saline solution (containing Himalayan salt) is poured into one nostril, after which it flows out through the other nostril. This helps to rinse and hydrate the nasal cavities. In Ayurveda, this is seen as a way to improve the flow of prana (life energy) and reduce Vata-dominant complaints in the head area.

The use of a neti pot is often recommended for colds, allergies (such as hay fever), a dry nose, or congested sinuses. Many people experience freer breathing, less pressure in the head, and a fresh feeling after rinsing. A neti pot is usually made of ceramic or plastic and is always used with a physiological saline solution to prevent irritation. Regular use can contribute to better nasal health and is considered part of a daily cleansing routine in Ayurveda.
